What is Airbrush Tanning?
Airbrush Tanning or ABT is a method to obtain the appearance of an attractive tan. This method applies DHA, (Dihydroxyacetone, a FDA approved product) to the body with the use of an air compressor and airbrush. The bronzing effect is achieved when the DHA reacts to the proteins and other compounds in the skin. The color continues to darken after the initial application and maximum generation of color is reached after 12 hours.
What should I do to prepare for a spray tanning session?
On the night prior to or the morning of you should shower, shave and exfoliate with non-moisturizing products. Do not apply lotions, make-up, or deodorants. These products may cause a barrier for the tanning solution.
What should I wear?
You may wear a swimsuit, undergarments, disposables, or if you are comfortable you can be sprayed topless or nude. (Men may not be sprayed nude) Make sure to bring loose fitting clothing to wear home. Some color guide will wear off onto the clothing and usually washes out.
How soon can I shower after ABT?
Wait at least 6 to 8 hours to shower. The longer the better. Giving the DHA solution time to react will insure the best results. You should also make every effort to avoid contact with water during that time. This includes working out or perspiring.
How do you maintain a ABT?
After the first shower apply moisturizer daily. Hydrated skin is essential to maintaining a longer lasting tan. To maximize the results you should use a tan extending moisturizer, drink plenty of water, avoid exfoliates and products containing ingredients such as alphahydroxy acids.
How long will ABT last?
Depending on the protein levels in your skin and how well you keep your skin moisturized, you can expect the color to last between 5 to 10 days.
How long does it take to apply?
It takes about 5 minutes to apply the product and about 10 minutes to dry. With undressing and dressing the whole session lasts about 20 minutes.
